Author: Hrishikesh Rajsinh Mahida, I year of B.B.A.,LL.B from Navrachana University.

Introduction of AI and other technology

Artificial intelligence is art of getting work done by machines and perform other human like activities. This term was first introduced in the year 1956 by John McCarty.

AI is recently used in broad field such as Healthcare, Robotics, Marketing, Business Analytics, and much more. There are many AI apps used on a large scale these days are Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, etc. It has become so generic that we don’t recognize that we use AI in our daily life for instance have you ever wondered how Google is able to give you such accurate results or your Facebook or Instagram feed always gives you the content of your interest all come to just one thing that is artificial intelligence. Siri is the best example of AI machine learning and deep learning.

So, let’s have a look how are these all related to each other. Artificial intelligence is the science of getting machines to copy the behavior of humans, where machine learning is a part of artificial intelligence that focuses on getting machines to make decisions by feeding those data on the other hand deep learning is a part of machine learning that uses the concept of the neural network to solve difficult problems. So, from the explanation, we can see that they are all interconnected with each other.

AI is not only qualified to machine learning or deep learning it covers a vast domain of fields including natural learning, progressive learning, object detection, computer vision, etc. there are 3 types of artificial intelligence, first we have Artificial Narrow Intelligence, Artificial General Intelligence, and Artificial Super Intelligence.

Now, apart from AI, there are many other technologies coming up these days we are going to talk about one of the well-known tech VR (Virtual Reality).

What is VR Headset?

The idea of Virtual Reality is to replace your reality with new virtual computer generated environment it could be some game or some environment you walk around or that’s some video that’s playing all around you when you look around but the idea is to trick your brain into thinking that that’s your new reality. VR actually started as a part of their flight training program and it’s flight simulator as it’s much easier and cheaper to have new pilot practicing stuff like fighting maneuvers and shooting things and ejecting and crashing all without shooting and ejecting and crashing actual million dollars aircraft’s. So that’s where VR makes perfect sense. Now after it’s recognition in year 2015 today in year 2022 it’s on some other different level than what it was back then. The know VR these days are Oculus, Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard, HTC Vive and many others. Now let’s see the issue and the why known VR Oculus Quest 2 is banned and why should not be banned.

Issue

Oculus VR headset ban in India.

Countries where Oculus is accepted

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherland, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States.

Why Oculus is banned in India

  • Oculus Quest 2 sales halt by Facebook after users complained ‘skin irritation’

  • Oculus Quest 2 is banned because when people login through their Facebook account, their Facebook account gets disabled.

Why It Should Not be Banned in India

As India is a developing country, we should accept new upcoming technologies in India. So, we could be in ranking of International Innovation Index.India is currently ranked 46th in the Global Innovation Index for 2021. In Bloomberg Innovation Index, 2021 India is ranked 50th in terms of Innovation. From South Asia, India is the only country to to presented on the index. India has taken its place on 5th in Global R&D Funding. And if India will accept the new upcoming technologies, we can take our steps towards becoming a developed country. If India doesn’t accept new technologies, it would be big barrier in way to become developed country. The top 3 Global Innovation Index countries are 1st South Korea, 2nd Japan, 3rd United States Of America.

Advantages Of VR Headset

Virtual Reality enables people to go places across the world and outer space poles of the Earth to the Moon.

It also let’s people experience the World in a whole different way, you can paint in mid-air be in space and have a closer look at sun and other planets of the solar system.

You can have reward without risk that is wearing VR headset lets you go for skydiving, and even bungee jumping or be to the world war situation, all with VR headset.

Disadvantage Of VR Headset

People become kind of anti-social with VR headset because VR lets people experience things in ways, they never ever have been able to. It’s more of addictive thing for people who are getting bullied in schools, colleges, and office.

Physical Illness (minor). VR lets people take the risk out of many extreme sports such as skydiving. Its still has many side effects such as nausea that is having feeling of vomit or can be said as motion sickness in layman words. Using VR for too long can cause eyes to become excessively strained. And continual eyestrain could lead to serious eye problems down the road. Some people say that it’s making lives of people better and others say that it’s decreasing the quality of life.

Conclusion

India doesn’t have its own Data Privacy law. In India right to privacy was declared a fundamental right by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. To accept new technologies India should have its own Data and Privacy law as soon as possible. Data Protection Rules are mentioned under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (“IT ACT”). India will soon be one a developed country and other countries will take India as the example. Not only in way enjoyment but VR can act as a tool in the education and learning students can have a closer look to the space station know it’s components just by sitting on couch even teacher can display the graphs and various diagrams and make studies more interactive. Imagine sitting on a chair wearing your VR headset and attending lecture given my and AI Albert Einstein or John Maynard Keynes one of the best economists in the world till date. So accepting new technologies can definitely lead to the development of the country and much more.
